BlackRock, MSCI draw scrutiny from US House Committee on China

A U.S. congressional committee on China is investigating asset management giant BlackRock and index provider MSCI , saying they were facilitating investments into blacklisted Chinese companies, underscoring how tense relations between the two countries are rippling out into corporate America.

But Representative Mike Gallagher, the committee's Republican chair, said in April he will issue subpoenas for executives who do not cooperate with its investigations.

"Companies are not going to disrupt their business model on their own. They're going to have to be ordered," said Leland Miller, chief executive officer at advisory firm China Beige Book.

Indeed, Governor DeSantis passed a bill in May that “prohibits the use of a federally adopted central bank digital currency (CBDC) by excluding it from the definition of money within Florida’s Uniform Commercial Code.” The bill also “prohibits foreign-issued CBDC to protect consumers against globalist efforts to adopt a worldwide digital currency,” according to the text of the bill.

“Florida continues to be a leader in the space, with both a friendly Governor, and a friendly mayors, we will continue to push the envelope when it comes to policy,” say Samuel Armes, Founder of the Florida Blockchain Business Association.

“They came back to us, and they said . . . we believe every asset other than bitcoin is a security,” Armstrong said according to the FT. “And, we said, well how are you coming to that conclusion, because that’s not our interpretation of the law. And they said, we’re not going to explain it to you, you need to delist every asset other than bitcoin.”
