For the second straight year, organizers are bringing industry stakeholders and business and political leaders together in Tampa for the Florida Bitcoin & Blockchain Summit.

Billed as the state’s “first blockchain and fintech in Florida focused event,” the summit takes place Friday, Nov. 4, at the Holiday Inn Westshore. Like last year’s event, held at Amalie Arena, Tampa Mayor Jane Castor will kick off a full day of programming with a welcoming address.

The Mayor – and the summit – made national headlines last year when Castor announced she would receive a portion of her salary in bitcoin, the apex cryptocurrency. The Tampa Bay Rays organization has taken an equity position in Cityverse, a startup civic platform that will connect the community through information, ideas and experiences.

Team leadership sees Cityverse as a channel to build meaningful new ways for fans to engage with the team, and with each other. Tampa Bay Rays President Brian Auld, who joins the Cityverse Board of Advisors, said “We recognize and appreciate that our fans cheer on our team in a variety of ways – in-person at Tropicana Field, watching TV at home or at their favorite restaurant, and more and more on their laptops and smart phones. We are excited for this partnership with Cityverse, which will allow us to build stronger connections with our fans through content creation, community building and gamifying the fan experience.”

The two organizations will work to develop new initiatives through the Cityverse platform for the Rays and the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Both teams will promote Cityverse at games. The Cityverse brand debuted during the Rays’ Monday, Sept. 19 game with the logo on the pitcher’s mound and behind home plate. Read More

Ethereum

Disagreement around how to handle sanctions on Ethereum may soon force the chain to split into two: one chain censored, one not.

Ethereum may soon split into two, according to some developers. As the second-largest blockchain network vies for mainstream acceptance, it has increasingly fallen under the microscope of governments and regulators eager to tame the platform.

The U.S. government’s vision for Ethereum – which involves regulating certain kinds of blockchain apps out of existence – is at odds with some of the core principles on which the platform was founded. Read More

After a period of tumult that is still shaking crypto companies to the core, a wave of management turnover is now sweeping across the industry.

The convulsions that set the cryptocurrency market tumbling earlier this year and delivered shock waves through the industry have subsided. Now comes the shakeup in the C-suite.
